Can't reach your Mac

Can’t reach your Mac

The Lettuce iPhone app reads and edits your vault on its own, but the Mac Tools (Chat, Publish, briefings, export) run on your Mac over your Tailscale network. If those show offline, work through this checklist.

Tip

The iPhone app has a built-in “Can’t reach your Mac?” helper under Settings ▸ Mac Tools when it’s offline — it walks you through the same checks.

Checklist

  1. Tailscale is connected on both devices. Open the Tailscale app on the iPhone and on the Mac and confirm both show green / connected, signed in to the same account. If either is disconnected, the phone can’t see the Mac.

  2. The Mac is awake and the server is running. Either Lettuce is open on the Mac, or the always-on server is running (the “Keep running when Lettuce is closed” toggle in File ▸ Connect iPhone). A sleeping Mac without the always-on server is unreachable.

  3. Re-scan the QR code. The Mac’s Tailscale address can change. On the Mac open File ▸ Connect iPhone, then on the iPhone go to Settings ▸ Mac Tools ▸ Scan to Connect and scan the fresh QR. The URL and token refill automatically.

  4. Tap Re-test. After fixing any of the above, tap Re-test in the phone’s Mac Tools to re-run the connection check.
